Red Flag Warning for North Bay Mountains, Valleys, East Bay Hills & Interior Valleys from 5pm 9/9/21 to 11am 9/10/21.
Red Flag Warning has been issued for North Bay Mountains and Valleys and East Bay Hills and Interior Valleys from 5pm 9/9/2021 to 11am 9/10/2021.
● This is a low probability/high impact event
● Slight chance of thunderstorms producing lightning on extremely dry fuels can easily start wildfires
● Thunderstorms may bring locally gusty and erratic winds which may lead to rapid fire spread after ignition
The National Weather Service in San Francisco has issued a Red Flag Warning for Dry Lightning, which is in effect from 5 PM this afternoon (9/9/2021) to 11 AM PDT Friday (9/101/2021).
Dry lightning as well as gusty/erratic wind potential this afternoon through Friday morning… Upper level moisture continues to increase over the region from south to north. The sub-tropical moisture will interact with an upper level disturbance moving in from the west.
Thunderstorm chances increase late this afternoon into early Friday morning as the disturbance moves inland. Thunderstorms will be a mix of wet and dry, but given how dry the fuels are any lightning strikes will be problematic. The threat for thunderstorms diminishes early Friday as the moisture exits eastward.
