The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has extended the Flex Alert for Thursday, September 9th asking consumers and businesses to conserve energy between the hours of 4pm to 9pm, due to hot weather affecting much of California and the West, and tight energy supply margins in the market. Read the news release.

To prepare for a FlexAlert, we are all urged to manage our energy use, such as cooling and appliances, prior to 4pm when energy supplies are more likely produced from renewable solar resources. 

Tips to Manage Energy Use Before 4pm: 

  • Pre-cool your home or work space by lowering your thermostat
  • Use major appliances (dishwasher, washer and dryer)
  • Close window coverings
  • Charge electronic devices and electric vehicles

The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has issued a Flex Alert for Wednesday, September 8th asking consumers and businesses to conserve energy between the hours of 4pm to 9pm, due to predicted high energy demand and tight supplies across the West. Read the news release.

The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has issued a Flex Alert for Friday, July 9th asking consumers and businesses to continue to conserve energy between the hours of 4pm to 9pm. The CAISO is continuing to monitor weather and grid conditions; I will share additional announcements, such as the potential need for rolling outages, as information becomes available.

To prepare for a FlexAlert, consumers are urged to manage their energy use prior to 5pm by using energy during the mid-day, when you are likely using energy supplies produced from renewable solar resources.

Tips to Manage Energy Use Before 4pm:

  • Pre-cool your home or work space by lowering your thermostat
  • Use major appliances (dishwasher, washer and dryer)
  •  Close window coverings
  • Charge electronic devices and electric vehicles

Please be advised, starting Wednesday, June16 through Thursday June 17, 2021 between 4pm-9pm the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has highlighted the need for energy conservation and to prepare for a potential Flex Alert due to extreme heat. CAISO News Release.

A Flex Alert is a call for voluntary conserving of electricity when there is an anticipated high energy demand. When consumers reduce electricity use during a Flex Alert, it can prevent the need for power outages.
