Lafayette Community Foundation IntroduLafayette Community Dayces Community Day

Come Together Lafayette to embrace communitarianism* by participating in a citywide community service day on Saturday, June 4.

Lafayette Community Foundation (LCF), The City of Lafayette and Lafayette Chamber of Commerce are partnering for Lafayette’s first Community Day. This special day includes a morning welcome in Park Plaza and then an opportunity for volunteerism in which community members can sign up in advance for a work party for a select volunteer project. Afterward, everyone is invited to come back together at Park Plaza for a Community Day celebration that includes information about the participating nonprofits, activities, BBQ, live music by the Traveling Wilburys Revue from 12:30pm-2:30pm and the chance to recognize all those who helped make this new annual event a big success!

In 1988, George Harrison (you may have heard of him) brought a few of his friends together to cut a “B” sidetrack, “Handle Me with Care.” his friends were Jeff Lynne (ELO), Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, and Bob Dylan. This launched a couple of albums calling themselves the Traveling Wilburys. They never toured. They never played before an audience. At Community Day, we are bringing you as close as we can to their gathering. We are lucky enough to have the Traveling Wilburys Revue at this year’s event.

Mark your calendars and plan to roll up your sleeves on June 4th. Visit https://lafayettecommunityday.org for more details and to sign up for a volunteer shift, email communityday@lafayettecf.org with any initial questions or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities.

*Communitarianism is an ideology that emphasizes the responsibility of the individual to the community and the social importance of the family.
