This September It’s “BeKind 21” in the City of Lafayette

The City of Lafayette has proclaimed the days of September 1 to September 21, 2021, as “BeKind 21” in the City of Lafayette.

Together with the City of Lafayette, Lafayette Partners in Education, Lafayette School District, Peter Pan Foundation and Lafayette Social, the Lafayette Chamber is once again partnering with Born This Way Foundation to practice 21 days of being kind to each other, culminating on the United Nations International Day of Peace. Born This Way Foundation launched #BeKind21 in 2018 to invite participants to practice an act of kindness for themselves and others each day from September 1st to September 21st to build kinder, connected communities that foster mental wellness.

We invite you to participate in the challenge by being kind to your neighbors, friends, family members, fellow residents, yourself, your employees and business partners, and your community. It’s easy to participate:

    1. Take Born This Way Foundation’s #BeKind21 pledge to build a habit of kindness by doing something kind for yourself and others every day for 21 days this September.
    2. Read our 21 examples of sharing kindness below that the Lafayette Chamber has developed for the challenge.
    3. Make a contribution to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano during the Lafayette Chamber’s food drive. Donation bins will be throughout Lafayette the week of September 7 through Wednesday, September 22. Or donate now virtually.

From Neil Zarchin, Food Drive Administrator, Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano:

“One new factor in the current situation is fire relief. Although our name is, and the vast majority of our services are in, Contra Costa and Solano counties – our service area extends up the Sacramento Valley through Redding to the Oregon border. We are still sending 3-5 trucks a month to help people displaced by the Camp fire in Paradise two years ago. Now we are responding to both the Dixie and River fires. This year we have implemented ‘kitchen-free’ boxes which contain enough food for one person for a day. These boxes contain ready to eat meals, fruit cups, granola bars, and shelf-stable milk. They are available for both fire refugees and first responders. We prepare and keep thousands of them on hand so they are available at a moment’s notice when any disaster strikes.
