Lafayette Health Club is proud to be celebrating 29 years of service in health & fitness to the Lamorinda community! Debbie Swigert, LHC’s sole owner since its doors opened in 1981, is passionately committed to assisting members in achieving a healthy, balanced lifestyle by providing a non-intimidating, friendly community oriented club to work out in. LHC’s helpful and caring staff, convenient location and unique facility are the perfect match for anyone interested in a health club “where the people are real and so are the results”.
Over the past 3 decades, Deb has kept LHC up-to-date and on the cutting edge, offering and teaching the latest and most popular activities the fitness industry has to offer. Lafayette Health Club offers a wide range of classes and services including Personal Training, private and group Pilates Equipment and Mat instruction, Zumba, Spin, Strength Training, Yoga, Circuit, Nutrition & Weight Loss and much more! Currently LHC is
promoting “LHC’s Summer Blast Off!” which encourages members to get out and explore California on any of the pre-selected routes. For the gym-bound crowd, we offer an alternate of spinning, running and taking LHC classes to participate. Points are earned for miles travelled which culminate in prizes for those
who do their best!
Debbie Swigert has always been active, starting with competitive swimming in her youth. At age 25, Debbie opened LHC and also began aerobics (remember Step?!), weight lifting and running. By her 30’s, Debbie was back into competing yearround with Masters Swimming. In her 40’s, Deb decided to expand her athletic horizons and began racing mountain bikes and competing in road and mountain bike triathlons, where she was a frequent age-group winner. While still swimming competitively,she managed to stay in the top 10 in the nation, in her age group, in the 200-yard butterfly.
Now in her 50’s,Deb has had to curtail her activities to accommodate some injuries and physical limitations. Instead of running mountain trails, she and her
husband hike. Instead of swimming competitively, she now swims for fitness and the pure joy of being in the water.
As Debbie says: “Activities change as you age. You don’t have to stop, you just have to regroup and do a little mental adjustment, JUST KEEP MOVING!!!”
